Seen and Heard

‘Seen and Heard’ was composed in 2022 for the Cross Border Youth Choir and was premiered on 11th March 2023 in Belfast as part of Young at Art’s ‘Belfast Children’s Festival’. The choirs singing in this event were the Belfast Philharmonic Youth Choirs and Phil Kids Years 3 and 4, Dublin Youth Training Choir and Dublin Youth Cambiata Choir, and the Sperrin Youth Choir. ‘Seen and Heard’ was created with support from Jim Papoulis and the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.

This version of ‘Seen and Heard’ is for choirs that are beginning to develop two-part singing. Through antiphonal singing (call and response) and partner melodies (melodies that are different but work together), choirs can build confidence and independence through this pentatonic piece. ‘Seen and Heard’ also exists as an SSA concert piece and as an SACambiata piece, for choirs with changing voices.

‘Seen and Heard’ reminds us that every choir can be an important place where young people are seen, heard, known, and loved.
